Sabrina Artel's Trailer Talk can now be heard every Friday at 2pm on WJFF Radio Catskill 90.5FM in Jeffersonville, New York.

Trailer Talk is a public conversation that always includes many more people during the live event than are included in the audio program. In all cases the audio program which is the secondary component of the Trailer Talk project is only a portion of the conversations shared at my mobile kitchen table. I am grateful to all of the participants during Trailer Talk both inside and outside of the trailer. Everyone who participates in Trailer Talk is important to both the live and the recorded audio event. Thanks so much to everyone for joining in on the conversations!

American Pie and Slices of Life 12.19.08

My friend David Gibson, “made what looks like the perfect apple pie”!

I love dessert and homemade pie. I delight in walking my local farmer’s market picking out the juiciest fruit and sweetest or even better yet the tartest most sour cherries for my pie. I’m a very spontaneous pie maker but it usually involves friends gathering and a summer night. I think a Santa Rosa plum and white nectarine pie is definitely worth the calories and the ahs from my guests. I’m no wizard with the crust and my pie usually looks a bit unbalanced and quirky not at all like my friend Jill or David’s pies but they are good. Now I’m not a pie-person as much as I’m a chocolate anything kind of person but pie is up there in deliciousness and the homemade aspect is most important and appreciated. There is something about the images that pie conjures up, like love, diners and memories that make the whole pie story interesting. I loved speaking with Pascale Le Draoulec about her book, Slices of Life (and Pie) from America’s Back Roads. I crave adventures and especially a road trip (as you know) so Pascale’s book was a delight. She mixes her own search for family, her desire to find the best pie and her move from the West to the East Coast to share with her readers the real story of pie and the people behind it. So in celebration of National Pie Day on January 23rd let’s dream of what our next slice of pie will be. I’ll take a slice of sour cherry please. Oh, but there’s sweet potato and lemon meringue and… too! What’s your favorite?
